AASU was started at the Downtown Center by BCC Freshman Valerie Minnis,
who also serves as President. The group, currently with 7 members, meets
each Thursday to plan events and discuss issues of mutual interest. They
have been meeting throughout January to plan for Black History Month. They've
planned events during the month, culminating in a big block party festival
February 27, when SE 2nd Avenue, in front of the Higher Education Complex,
will be closed to traffic.
