AASU Events
The Willis Holcombe Center 's African American Student Union (AASU) has provided the students of the WHC with a variety of events to celebrate Black History Month. Students were given the opportunity to learn about the African holiday celebration of Kwanza , by attending a workshop hosted by Donald Cleveland, the Dean of the Student Development Department on Central Campus, in which students learned the meaning and significance of Kwanza . Another workshop offered to students was centered around the accomplishments, and contributions, made by the African American scholar W.E.B. Du Bois. The workshop, titled “The Talented Tenth,” was hosted by Ken Williams, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Willis Holcombe Center . But nothing gets students interested like food and entertainment; so students were treated to a “Soul Food” event in which they were able to enjoy the performances of Baba Adekemi Lyons, an accomplished actor and storyteller, and the Joseph Tapper, “The Speaking Sax,” while enjoying some soul food, provided by Sanford and Son Catering.
