This Fall Peer Educators,
Student Government Association, and Phi Theta Kappa all came together
to help raise over $265 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
In the past 20 years the foundation has become an international
organization whose purpose is the prevention and eradication of
Breast Cancer.
The Downtown Center student
organizations, responsible for raising the money, organized they’re
fundraiser in conjunction with the National Lee Denim Days, sponsored
by the Lee Corporation. Since 1996 National Denim Day has raised
over 36 million dollars nationwide and 100 percent of all proceeds
have gone towards the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
This year National Denim
Day was held on October 10th, 2003. In addition to raising money
students also set-up an information table with pamphlets that contained
facts about Breast Cancer, as well as informative guides that showed
women how to give themselves self-exams when checking for Breast
Cancer. $260 isn’t going to help find a cure all by itself
but is certainly won’t hurt and every little bit of money
helps.
