Day of the Dead October 2004
On November 3, 2004 the Willis Holcombe Center Student Government Association held a Day of the Dead celebration. Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated on November first every year. “It is an ancient festivity that has been much transformed through the years, but which was intended to celebrate children and the dead. Hence, the best way to describe this Mexican holiday is to say that it is a time when Mexican families remember their dead, and the continuity of life”. Salvador, R. J. (2003).
SGA decided to piggy back off of Student Life’s “Viva Mexico” event and, instead of celebrating Halloween, bring a little more Mexican culture to the students at WHC. The event included traditional picnic food sandwiches and fruit, wax hand making and balloon sculptures. It was well attended by the WHC students.
