On January 20th 2004 the Willis
Holcombe Center’s Student Life Department, Student Government
Association, and Peer Educators Club all came together to give students
a healthy alternative, at least for one day, to their routine of
raiding the vending machines on campus. The Weight Loss Table, part
of a series of health information tables sponsored by Student Life,
was designed to provide students with pamphlets regarding weight
loss, exercise, and other issues. It also provided students with
fresh apples, bananas, water, and the highlight of the day, strawberry
& banana smoothies; all free of charge and loaded with great
taste. The smoothies were made with bananas, strawberries, apple
juice, fat-free yogurt, and a touch of sugar. “The smoothies
were great, I could have had a whole gallon of that stuff,”
said Richard Lewis, a student at the Willis Holcombe Center. Despite
technical problems with the smoothie maker, and one student mistaking
the yogurt for mayonnaise, students were able to enjoy the benefits
of their Student Activity Fee once again.
