| Downtown Center’s Student Life
and Student Government Association along with El Club Hispano hosted
‘Dia de Dulces’, Day of Desserts on Tuesday, October
15th. To conclude the month of Hispanic Heritage, the event offered
a variety of ethnic foods and desserts. Students, staff and faculty
enjoyed plantains, different Spanish rice, shredded beef as well
as guava pastries, caramel cake and much, much more! The event accommodated
both day and evening students, and representatives from Student
Government were on hand to help while passing out freebies and club
information.
As the guests and volunteers filled their bellies, Downtown Center
Spanish professor Claudia Sahagun lead those present in the new
‘Macarena’ dance to the Spanish mega-hit, Le Ketchup.
The entire day was accompanied by great Latin rhythms and varied
music styles from all aspects of Hispanic culture, and those present
had a hard time keeping their feet still! The Hispanic Heritage
event not only presented the music and culinary facet of Hispanic
culture, but also further exemplified the many diverse styles and
attitudes of those originating from a multitude of countries. Students
and faculty alike were eager to participate and share from their
own particular culture with everyone present.
