Leadership Retreat October 2004
For the past three terms the Student Life Departments of Central, South, North, and the Willis Center of Broward Community College have all come together to organize and facilitate their college-wide leadership retreat. Students who attend the retreat will be exposed to all sorts of workshops, designed to enhance the communication, leadership, and teambuilding skills inside each student. “Our retreats provide the students with skills they can apply to their everyday life. We do focus on Leadership skills, but they are broad enough that all students can benefit from them. Student Life’s Leadership Retreats are an excellent opportunity that I think all BCC students should take advantage of,” said Patricia Sullivan Student Life Coordinator at the Willis Holcombe Center. The retreat, October 15th – 17th at Camp Sparta, located in Sebring, Florida, was focused on teambuilding workshops designed to improve leadership skills as well as ways to improve self-esteem and communication. To facilitate the retreat Student Life enlisted the services of Dr. James McCray, a keynote speaker Dr. McCray has hosted numerous workshops all over the world including: Hong Kong, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, and New Zealand. “I think he’s a very creative guy, he had a lot of fresh ideas, and a lot of energy to back it up. I liked how he used a simple thing, like teaching us how to juggle, and incorporating that into succeeding in life and not giving up,” said Amir Kadir, a Willis Holcombe Center student.
