Viva Mexico October 2004
For this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month the Willis Holcombe Center focused in on the culture and heritage of Mexico. Even before it gained independence from Spain in September of 1821, Mexico has been a land steeped in tradition and culture, making it a perfect choice for this year’s Hispanic Heritage celebration. It was also Student Life’s intention of shifting the cultural focus of Hispanic Heritage to a new country and culture, after spending the last couple years focused on Cuban culture and food. This year’s main Hispanic Heritage event entitled: Viva Mexico, featured Mexican dishes, provided by Hugo’s Catering and Baja Fresh, as well as entertainment provided by Mariachi Aguila del Sur, an authentic eight-piece Mariachi Band that played for both day and night students.
