2. Experiment Execution and Data Collection
This category is the heart of the science training of the students participating in Space Payloads. The modules change from year to year depending on the status of the project and the area of research. The activities remain but form part of new modules. Most of the activities take place in the student research lab.
- DNA radiation dosimetry
Learn DNA Gel-electrophoresis.
Learn how to prepare samples for experiment and control sequences
Apply statistical methods.
- Crystal Growth and Zero-g effects
This module encourages students to investigate the numerous parameters involved in crystal growth, particularly in Zero-g. Students will have to
Perform Crystal Growth experiments in the Lab.
Photograph the progress of the crystal growth
Apply statistical methods.
Atmospheric Spectroscopy and Remote Sensing
Construct a spectrograph and use it in remote sensing.
Interface with the Florida Space Institute design team.
Learn Basic spectral calibration techniques.
Construct and use a simple radiometer.
Learn digital image processing.
