Broward College among Tops in Nation in Awarding Associate Degrees

The data is in, Community College Week’s “Top 100” issue is out, and Broward College is once again among the top producers of associate degrees on the national charts. The College is ranked 5th in the country among four-year institutions in awarding associate’s degrees in the 2010-2011 academic year, moving up from 6th place last year, with 4,881 graduates. Number one is the University of Phoenix online, followed by three other Florida state colleges, Miami-Dade, Valencia and Jacksonville.
 
According to Community College Week, Broward College is ranked 3rd in the U.S. in awarding associate degrees to minority students, with 2,997 minority students graduating in 2010-2011. More specifically, we are 4th in graduating African American students, and 6th in producing Hispanic degree-holders.
 
With four of the top five colleges on the “Top 100” list of degree producers being in the Florida College System, the state is definitely leading the country. In addition, 16 of the colleges in the system are among the producers of the largest total numbers of associate degrees, and 14 are among the highest in numbers for associate degrees awarded to minority students.
