Future Online Students
Follow these steps to start a successful online journey at Broward College.
First Things First
Determine if Online Learning is Right for You
Online learning is not for everyone. The following are basic characteristics of a successful online student:
- Knows basic computer and typing skills (can use e-mail, send attachments, create and manage files, and handle basic trouble-shooting tasks).
- Is not afraid to ask questions and seek help when needed.
- Can dedicate specific times during the week to log in and participate, preferably at least four times per week.
- Can communicate clearly in writing.
- Doesn't mind reading a lot of text online.
- Has good organizational and time management skills.

Make a Plan
Print out a copy of the program sheet for the degree or certificate program you wish to study so that you have the list of courses you know you'll need to take. Make an appointment with an adviser. If you are taking only online classes and do not live close to a campus to meet with an advisor in person, you can make an appointment with one of the cyber advisors.

Time to Decide
Browse Classes
With program sheet in hand, find out if the class(es) you need are available online during the current term. When you search for courses, look for the red notes indicating whether it is an online or blended section.

Register for Class
Once you have been accepted by the college, you may register for online or blended courses just like on-campus courses. You can login to your myBC account, or click the "add to cart" button from the course schedules page. When you check out, you will need to log in to complete the process.

Be Prepared
Read the Course Preview Page
Before the term begins, be sure to read your professor's course preview page. This page will give you information about any on-campus meetings, proctored exams, textbooks and materials.
The course preview pages can be found in the course notes area on your schedule. Simply log in to your myBC account and copy and paste the URL for each professor's course preview page into a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.).

Start Your Online Course
You will not be able to log in to your online class until the first day of the term. Use the link to Blackboard to the left, or from Broward College's main website. Many faculty members require that you complete an online orientation within the first few days of class so log in as soon as the term begins or risk being dropped.
