PTA Career Paths

As Physical Therapist Assistants, graduates of Broward College's program pursue rewarding careers in a variety of areas, such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Private clinics
  • Rehabilitation centers
  • Nursing homes
  • Public health agencies
  • Home health agencies

After their careers are underway, Physical Therapist Assistants who wish to develop expertise in specialized areas such as sports medicine, pediatrics or geriatrics, can take the appropriate continuing education courses at BC to enhance their qualifications.

Other Opportunities!

Program graduates may opt to serve as Clinical Instructors in the clinical education component of the curriculum. In addition, PT Assistants may secure faculty positions in community colleges or private institutions as instructors in PT assistant programs. They may even qualify for the position of a program director or department head of a PTA program if they have advanced their education to a master’s level.

Although the career ladder is somewhat limited in terms of advancement once employed, a graduate assistant may attend any variety of continuing education courses in efforts to enhance general knowledge or to investigate avenues of special interest (sports medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, etc.) and receive certification in these areas. Continued self-growth is a concept that the faculty promotes throughout the two-year course of study.

Students interested in pursuing an upper level education as a physical therapist should contact the specific university of interest or conduct a web search to obtain current information regarding colleges that offer a PT program. Each university maintains its own admission criteria. PT programs typically require additional courses in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and humanities. The general education courses in the PT Assistant program will likely transfer however, the core courses (PHT) may not.
