Step 1: Apply to Broward College (BC). Read and follow the instructions for applying to the college on the Admissions Information & Application Page. Part of the application process includes having your transcripts sent from other colleges/universities to BC. You may also need to meet with an advisor to complete any placement tests and evaluate transcripts.
Step 2: Complete program prerequisite courses. The following courses must be completed with a "C" grade or higher, or transferred in from another college/university* prior to submitting a Radiation Therapy Program application:
ENC 1101 English Composition
BSC 1085 Anatomy & Physiology I
BSC 1085L Anatomy & Physiology I Lab
BSC 1086 Anatomy & Physiology II
BSC 1086L Anatomy & Physiology II Lab
MTB 1310 Applied Mathematics or MAT 1033 Intermediate Algebra
*Note: Courses more than 10 years old will have to be evaluated to determine if they need to be repeated.
Step 3: Apply to the Radiation Therapy Program. Submit a Health Science Limited Access Admission Application between September 1st & May 10th. Besides successful completion of the prerequisite courses, applicants must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in order to be eligible for program admission.
Radiation Therapy AS Program Selection Criteria Once students have successfully completed all prerequisite courses (i.e., ENC 1101, BSC 1085, BSC 1085L, BSC 1086, BSC 1086L & MTB 1310 or MAT 1033) and have applied to the Radiation Therapy Program with the required minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, admission will be based on a point system. Points will be awarded for the number of courses completed toward the .A.S. Degree in Radiation Therapy, Grade point average (programmatic) and work experience Points for Courses Completed Toward the Degree: Only those courses required for the. A.S. Degree in Radiation Therapy (exclusive of the prerequisite courses and pre-health science core requirements) will be used to award points. One point will be awarded for each course successfully completed with a minimum of a “C” (or “S”) grade regardless of the number of credits. The points awarded for courses completed at Broward College or that are transferred in as equivalent are as follows: CGS1060C Computer and Internet Literacy | 1 point | Humanities/Fine Arts Elective | 1 point | Social/Behavioral Science Elective | 1 point | SPC 1024 Intro to Speech Communications or SPC 1600 Public Speaking | 1 point |
*Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) students who meet all of the application criteria will be awarded one (1) additional point. Points for Accumulative Grade Point Average Points as follows will be awarded for the accumulative average of the courses that are required by the AS degree. This is for courses completed at BCC or that are transferred in as equivalent: 2.5 -3.2 GPA | 1 points | 3.3-4.0 GPA | 2 points |
Points for Health Care Work Experience Full time employment in a radiation therapy department | 3 points | Part time employment in a radiation therapy department | 2 points | Full time employment in a Health care environment | 2 points | Part time employment in a Health care environment | 1 points |
Selection of Students: Students with the highest point totals will be offered admission to the program based on availability. In the event of a tie, admission will be based on date of application (first come, first serve). Students are therefore, encouraged to apply as soon as possible after all prerequisite courses are completed. The earliest applications can be submitted is September 3 (i.e., 11 months in advance of the program start date in August of the following year). Only those applications meeting the program selection criteria will be considered. Incomplete applications or those received before students have completed the prerequisite courses will be rejected. Students selected for the program will be notified by the Admissions Department via e-mail during the months of June. Those accepted will be required to attend a pre-admission session and accept or decline their place in the program. Students can defer entry into the program until the following year. However, such students must enter the program the following August. Those who do not enter the following year will have to reapply for admission. Students who do not attend the pre-admission session or contact Admissions to accept, decline, or defer entry into the program will need to reapply for the following year. |
Step 4: Complete the Pre-Health Science Core Requirements. After submitting a Radiation Therapy Program application, but prior to entering the program, you must successfully complete the following courses*:

CAE 0382 HIV/AIDS
CAE 0476 TB/OSHA/Hepatitis
CAE 0299 Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (CPR)
CAE 0474 Domestic Violence
CAE 0258 Prevention of Medical Errors
*Note: The above courses may be "waived" or substituted for those students that have prior training, coursework, or current CPR certification.
Step 5: Complete Admission Requirements. Upon acceptance in the program, students are required to obtain a Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen, & Physical Examination.

Waiting List: There is no waiting list to get into the Radiation Therapy program at Broward College. Each year applicants are accepted based on GPA, the date of application, & the number of general education credits completed toward the A..S. degree in Radiation Therapy. Applicants who are not admitted must reapply for the following year.
