Program Information

Length:

The Radiography Program begins around the 3rd week of August each year and concludes in mid June of the second year of study. The program is approximately 22 months in length, exclusive of prerequisite courses. The total number of program credits is 77.

Location:

The Radiography Program consists of on-campus courses, online instruction, & clinical education in area hospitals. All didactic (i.e., lecture) & laboratory courses are taught in building 8 on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie, Florida or online. Clinical courses are located in hospitals throughout Broward County, so students may have to drive up to one hour from their home to attend such courses. Students will rotate through 3 different hospitals over the length of the program. Prerequisite and general education courses (i.e., courses that do not begin with an "RTE" prefix) may be taken at any Broward College campus or online if available.

Progression:

In order to successfully progress through the Radiography Program students must achieve cognitive, affective, & psychomotor learning outcomes. This requires a grade of "C" or better to be earned in all didactic radiography courses & an "S" (satisfactory) grade in all clinical & laboratory courses. This requirement is in addition to maintaining an overall degree GPA of at least 2.0. All RTE courses in the Radiography Program are sequential. Each course must therefore be passed with a grade of "C" or better ("S" in the case of labs & clinic) to progress to the next scheduled course/term. Students who do not successfully complete any of the RTE courses will be withdrawn from the program & will have to repeat & successfully pass such courses before progressing.

Note: Each course in the Radiography Program is offered once per year. Students who fail a course or withdraw will not be able to re-take that course in the subsequent term, as it will not be offered until the following year

Hours:

The Radiography Program is a full-time commitment and cannot be taken part-time. It is primarily a daytime program with hours between 8am - 4pm, Monday through Friday. A typical semester during the first year of the program involves 2 days of clinic attendance, with the other 3 days reserved for lecture classes & labs. During year two students attend clinic 3 days a week & have classes & labs on the remaining 2 days. Some Radiography Program courses are delivered in a Blended format & therefore do not meet every week on a regular basis. There are no scheduled weekend courses or clinical rotations.

Course Load:

Each semester students will have at least 3 didactic courses, 1 or 2 laboratory courses, & one clinical course. Didactic courses typically meet once per week for 1-3 hours, depending on the number of credits. Didactic courses may be Web-enhanced, blended (where students do part of their coursework online & part on campus) or fully online. Laboratory courses meet on campus once per week for 2 hours. Clinical courses meet twice or three times per week for 8 hours in the Fall & Winter semesters. In Summer term, clinical courses meet either 4.5 or 8 hours per day.
