Various student resources and services for financial aid are available on the internet. These can assist students in locating scholarships, gaining financial aid information, calculating estimated school cost, and more.

General Resources

 

FAFSA on the Web - You can apply for student financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online.

 

Upromise - A very powerful savings program that allows family or future students themselves to save money for a college education by saving a percentage of all current credit card sales, using specialized loyalty cards, shopping online at their website, and other special promotions.

 

U.S. Department of Education: Federal Student Aid - Site with information about Federal grants, loans, and work study programs for financial aid applicants.

 

Florida Department of Education: Office of Student Financial Assistance - Information on State financial aid programs for students such as Florida Student Assistance Grant, Bright Futures Scholarship, and Florida Work Experience Program.

 

Peterson's Virtual College: Financial Aid - A comprehensive educational resource of information and services. Their financial services section includes a system for finding the best college deal, a finance literacy test, and more.

 

FinAid! - A useful resource that includes scholarship, loan, and savings information, as well as useful financial calculators that can help students to determine how much school will cost them, how much they'll need to save, and how much aid will be required.

 

Parent & Student Resources

 

National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA): Parents & Students - A collection of useful financial aid links for both the parent and student. There are various services including financial guidance and savings information, as well as Spanish versions of services.



Scholarship Searches

 

FastWEB (Financial Search through the WEB) - is the largest and most complete scholarship search on the Internet. It provides access to a searchable database of more than 400,000 private sector scholarships, fellowships, grants, and student loans. To use FastWeb, a student fills out a detailed profile through a series of online forms. After the forms are complete, FastWeb responds within a few minutes with a list of matching awards. Each entry in this list includes information about deadlines, eligibility requirements, award amounts, and contact information for the award provider.  These scholarships are not necessarily through Broward Community College.

 

College Scholarship Search from BrokeScholar  -brought to you by Chase, is a free, easy-to-use Web resource that can connect students and parents to over 600,000 scholarships for college.

 

Scholarships.com - Another free scholarship search utility that uses a student's profile to match them with compatible scholarships. Their system provides an award summary and personalized application request letter for matching results.

 

Scholarship Hunter  - Lists all available scholarships with direct links to sponsors plus useful tools on how to apply for financial aid.

Financial Aid Awareness

 

The Student Aid Alliance - The Alliance is a coordinated effort to increase funding for the federal student financial aid programs. This site includes sample letters to Congress, a concise statement of Alliance priorities, and a listing of Alliance member organizations (which includes NASFAA). There is also a very comprehensive FAQ web page.

 

Scholarship Scams - Page with information regarding common scholarship scams and how to be prepared for them. It gives tips on learning to spot them and avoid them.
