Since 2000, TG has been proud to support a grant program designed to provide help to students pursuing a higher education and who have financial need. For the 2011-12 academic year, TG's Charley Wootan Grant program will award grants totaling $5 million. TG will award $4 million in grants to students who are Texas residents. TG will distribute $1 million in grants to students residing outside Texas. Grants within Texas will be split between students going to 2-year colleges or vocational schools and students enrolled at 4-year universities.

 

Eligibility

 

All Charley Wootan Grant applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or otherwise eligible to receive Title IV financial aid funding; must have attained or will attain a high school degree or the equivalent; must be enrolled or planning to enroll in college at least half-time, and must be able to demonstrate financial need. For members in good standing of the Federation of Public Employees or the Federation of Private Employees, their spouses, registered domestic partners, children, legal dependents, or grandchildren. -Membership in good standing is defined as being a dues-paying member for a minimum of one year, with dues current.

Up to four Community/State College Scholarships are awarded annually to transfer students from any community/state college. The selection requirements/criteria are as follows:

a) Student(s) must transfer directly from the community college to UCF in summer or fall 2011 and
b) Demonstrate well-rounded involvement to college campus, local community or have exceptional work experience.

The Florida Council of the Blind is offering four scholarships consisting of awards totaling $6,750.00.  These are offered to outstanding students who are enrolled in academic education or professional training beyond the high school level.  Graduating high school seniors, who plan to continue their education, may apply for these scholarships.

Please distribute the Florida Council of the Blind Scholarship application to the appropriate department or office of student services.

The closing date for application for the 2011 FCB Scholarship is March 31, 2011

Eligibility Requirements – Students must…

  • Be of Hispanic/Latino heritage
  • Be U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico
  • Be an upcoming college freshman or sophomore for the 2011-2012 school year.
  • Plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student during the 2011-2012 school year in a
    hospitality management, hotel management, culinary, or food beverage field.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

 

Students Selected Will Benefit from:

  • A renewable, full tuition scholarship up to $9,000, to cover tuition, books and other fees
  • Mentorship and guidance from Marriott hotel managers and corporate executives
  • Internship opportunities at hotels where you can experience first-hand Marriott’s rich
    culture, “Spirit to Serve” philosophy, and diverse family of associates known for the
    care they provide to guests, each other, and our communities.

  • Pursuing a Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree, or a degree in a closely related field (such as Software Engineering)

  • Maintaining a record of strong academic performance

  • Entering their junior or senior year of undergraduate study or enrolled in a graduate program in the 2011-2012 academic year at a University in the United States

 

Students Selected Will Benefit from:

 

Recipients of the Google HCF Scholarship will each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. Selected students will also be invited to attend the annual Google Scholars’ Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA, in 2011. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of applicants’ academic background and demonstrated passion for computer science.

Soroptimist International of the Americas is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities throughout the world. Soroptimist of Pompano Beach offers three (3) $1500 scholarships annually to women who fit the following eligibility requirements:

  • A woman who is the primary financial supporter of her family and is seeking to improve her life by gaining additional skills, training and education.
  • Enrolled in or accepted to an undergraduate degree program or a vocational/skills training program.
  • Have financial need.
  • Be motivated to achieve her educational and career goals.

Whether you're a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC has scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need.

Army ROTC scholarships consist of:

  • Two-, three-, and four-year scholarship options based on the time remaining to complete your degree.
  • Full-tuition scholarships.
  • The option for room and board in place of tuition, if you should qualify.
  • Additional allowances for books and fees.

Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) Scholarships are awarded to help support the financial needs of those deserving students who have chosen to seek higher education in the science of air traffic control and other aviation disciplines, as well as children of air traffic control specialists. Categories are as listed below.

  1. Students enrolled half- to full-time in a two- to four-year air traffic control program at an institution approved and/or licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration as directly supporting the FAA's college and training initiative.
  2. Students enrolled half- to full-time in a program leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in an aviation-related course of study.
  3. Full-time employees enrolled in advanced study programs to improve their skills in air traffic control or an aviation discipline.
  4. U.S. citizen, children of air traffic control specialists enrolled half- to full-time in a program leading to a bachelor's degree or higher.
Interested applicants must complete the application and submit it via postal service.

  • This scholarship is available to all and any applicants who are pursuing a career in the trades of the construction industry.
  • The student applicant shall agree that the use of the monies shall be predicated on his/her enrollment or other continuance of education in a recognized, accredited school such as a college, university, trade school, business college, or other as may be acceptable to the Scholarship Committee. The approved funds should be used for such purposes as tuition fees, books and student supplies, or for room and board.
  • The applicant shall possess qualities of good moral character and integrity.
  • A record of evidence of satisfactory scholastic or good grades, ability, ambition, and desire for continuance of education shall be submitted.
  • This is a one time fund of $1000 (one thousand dollars).

This particular program is a scholarship of up to $30,000 and is available to current sophomore students interested in various Engineering fields, Accounting, Marketing, and Management. The Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter, is privileged to offer an annual $5,000 scholarship to support the educational expenses of a Southeast Florida resident diagnosed with lupus.

The scholarship is in memory of Michael Jon Barlin, who died from complications of lupus at age twenty-four. He struggled with the debilitating effects of the disease for ten years, but during that time managed to obtain a BS degree with honors from the University of Miami.


General Guidelines

 

1. Applicant must provide proof of PRIMARY residency in one of the following counties (Brevard, Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie) served by the Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter.

 

2. Applicant must already be attending college and provide confirmation of matriculation from the college.

 

3. Applicant must present a letter from his/her physician confirming a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus.

 

4. Applicant must be working toward a degree with a minimum of nine credits per semester and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

 

5. Applicant must submit a one page statement of how lupus has affected his/her college experience.

 

6. The scholarship will be made on an annual basis to one recipient. Previous recipients may not reapply.

 

7. The scholarship will be sent directly to the college or university and may be used for tuition, room and board, books and fees.
