Federal and State Grants Information and Process


Grants and scholarships are considered gift aid and do not have to be repaid. Grants are usually based on financial need. Student Financial Services offers several grant programs to eligible students who apply early for financial aid and indicate BC as the 'college of choice' on your FAFSA on the Web (school code 001500).


The Federal Pell Grant program is the foundation for all federal student aid programs. Students must apply through the federal government (FAFSA on the WEB) and the federal government determines eligibility for aid. Funds are determined by income, assets, number in the household as well as other information. The award is also effected by number of credits you are enrolled in each semester. The Pell grant may only be awarded to undergraduate, degree seeking students who have not already obtained a bachelor's degree.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is a need-based grant entirely administered by the school and funded by the federal government to supplement the neediest students. This is a federal program and a limited amount of funding is provided by the government each year. Students who are needy and apply early are most likely to receive this award.

The FSAG is a state-funded, need-based grant program awarded to both full-time and part-time students attending eligible public institutions. Students who are needy and apply early are most likely to receive this award.

This federal grant is for students who are pell eligible and have successfully completed a rigorous high school program (i.e. IB or Advanced placement) or have qualified/received Florida Bright Scholarship. Students can be full-time or part-time and must maintain a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. to renew grant.
