General Criteria:

First Generation in College
* First generation in college /general criteria:
• An individual whose parents did not complete a baccalaureate degree or an individual who resided with and received support from one parent only, who did not complete a baccalaureate degree
• Must be a Florida resident
• Must be a degree seeking student
• Minimum enrollment of 6 credit hours for part-time; 12 credits for full-time
• Must be enrolled for the term for which he/she is seeking the scholarship
• Must apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Helios Education Foundation:
• First Generation general criteria *
• Must be seeking an degree in education with intent to become a teacher in Florida
• Good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0
Please complete and submit the Scholarship Application to the Scholarship Department through the campus Student Financial Services Office. Please indicate the name of the scholarship you are applying for on the application.
Alma Foundation/Nick’s Kids Fund:
• Selection determined by Title V representative

NSU Transfer Scholarship
This competitive scholarship opportunity is available to BCC students who have successfully graduated with an Associate degree and plan to transfer to Nova Southeastern University (NSU). Preference will be given to students who have a 3.5 GPA and are members of the Honors Institute, Phi Theta Kappa and the National Scholastic Honors Society. Eligible Bright Futures students and students who are majoring in nursing, education and other critical shortage areas as determined by the state of Florida will also be considered.
In order to be eligible, students must:
- Apply for federal, state and other student financial aid after January 1, 2008 by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with NSU’s school code (001509) and apply for the Florida Resident Access Grant (application provided by NSU).
- Students must have unmet need for tuition as determined by NSU’s Financial Aid office after applying for federal, state and other student financial aid following NSU’s requirements.
- Not be in default on a federal student loan or owe a refund on a Pell Grant or Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG).
- Successfully completed an Associates degree with a 3.5 cumulative GPA at BCC
- Be a Florida resident.
- Be a U. S citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Have applied for and been accepted as a first time student to an eligible bachelors degree program at NSU as a full time student.
Priority Deadline: April 15, 2008
Applications will be accepted until July 1st. However, meeting the priority deadline ensures first consideration for the NSU Transfer Scholarship.

The G.W. "Bill" McCall Journalism Scholarship
The G.W. "Bill" McCall Journalism Scholarship is an annual scholarship designed to help defray the cost of tuition books and supplies for students.
Eligibility:
Be a Sophomore with at least 25 credits and a minimum 2.5 GPA
Must be majoring in Print Journalism Media, Broadcast or Public Relations.
Although it is not required, we recommend that students complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov
In order to apply for the scholarship, the applicant must submit the following:
A BCC Scholarship Application (please see below)
A McCall Journalism Scholarship Application (please contact Jennifer Shapiro for the application)
Evidence of term enrollment
Academic transcript
Three letters of recommendation from individuals (not relatives) who can attest to your academic ability
A portfolio of your journalism achievement
A personal biographical sketch with details of your career goals
