Announcement for Veteran students regarding changes to Post 911 GI Bill benefits for the Fall 2011 term.
Public Law 111-377 modifications to the Post-911/ GI Bill:
- Under the Post-9/11 GI Bill, students must currently be enrolled in at least one classroom course to receive the basic housing allowance (BAH). Effective October 1, 2011 students will be eligible for 1/2 the national average BAH rate ($673.00 for the 2011-2012 academic year) if you are enrolled solely in Independent, distance, or internet training. If you are enrolled in at least one classroom course you will receive the full housing allowance.
Broward College ONLINE courses are identified with special designator code – (flexible learning, blended, E-learning, fully online, video tapes, web enhanced 50/50 or 40/60, and independent study)
- BAH: Effective August 1, 2011, payment is prorated based upon enrollment, rounded to the nearest multiple of 10 for students whose enrollment is greater than 50% based on 12 credits. Please use the BAH calculator on the VA website to get the latest information.
