Broward Community College presents Spring Dance Concert

The Visual and Performing Arts department at the Broward Community College A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie will present the annual Spring Dance Concert at Bailey Concert Hall, Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.  The program will feature new works from guest artists, faculty and student choreographers performed by the BCC Dance Ensemble.

Guest choreographer Letty Bassart created “Toying with Amusement” specifically for the BCC Dance Ensemble. The ensemble will perform this work, as well as an excerpt from the full-length “Flower Chronicles.”

Born and raised in North Miami, Bassart studied dance at New World School of the Arts and has performed extensively in Miami and abroad with modern and Spanish dance companies. Her solo work has been performed at Dance Theatre Workshop in New York City and throughout Miami. She has created commissioned works for Miami Contemporary Dance Company and Karen Peterson and Dancers.  In 2007 Bassart was awarded the Miami-Dade Dance Choreography Fellowship toward the development of a new work, “Salt” which will be presented in May. She also writes a monthly column, ChoreoNotes, for the MiamiArtzine.

Also on the program are “Social Refinements” choreographed by BCC faculty member Erin St. John and inspired by Bach’s sixteenth century Partita No.1 in B minor, and “Landings” choreographed by BCC faculty member Elana Lanczi.

For tickets and more information call the Bailey Hall Box Office at 954-201-6884. Admission is $6 for the general public, and half-price for seniors. Tickets are free for BCC students, faculty and staff with valid ID.
