The Broward College Model United Nations club is off to a stellar start. Students Kyle O’Neill, Bruno Costa, Jessica Pecoraro, Humberto Lazo, and Juliana Babirye represented the countries of Burkina Faso, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. Bruno Costa and Kyle O’Neill, representing Burkina Faso, received an honorable delegation award from the conference organizers. The students worked at representing their countries’ interests for Refugees’ rights, participated in creating proposals for the World Food Program, and simulated a meeting of the UN Security Council wherein the world was blown up – not once, but twice.
It was a terrific weekend in Gainesville at Santa Fe College. We were joined by delegations from University of Florida, Tallahassee Community College, Valencia Community College, and the University of South Florida, just to name a few. Currently we are beginning discussions on attending national meetings in New York and/or Equator. If you or someone you know might be interested in getting involved with the Model UN, please have them e-mail me (thouser@broward.edu)
Congratulations to our 5 Model UN participants: well done, all!
