- Holistic Advising is advising from a perspective of addressing personal, social, financial emotional, developmental, cultural and ethnic issues that may affect the academic performance and retention of students.
- Holistic advising focuses on the whole student rather than individual experience. It is identifying what causing difficulty for a student and recommending the appropriate intervention (Earl1987). It Involves:
- Encouraging students to seek help when needed before it’s too late
- Proactive interactions with students
- Active concerns for students’ academic preparation
- Willingness to assist students in exploring services/programs to improve skills
- Empower students with skills that will lead to independence
- Create awareness of student support services
