Tigertail Lake Recreational Center’s SCUBA program features full PADI certified courses. After taking the course, which is taught by a c​​ertified PADI instructor, the student will have acquired their official PADI open-water certification. PADI certification is recognized around the world and sets the standard in safety and​ education for this incredibly exciting sport. PADI, the Professional Association of Dive Instructors, is considered the gold standard of dive certifications. ​Open Water Diver

If you’ve always wanted to take SCUBA diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where that adventure begins. Get your SCUBA diving certification with Tigertail Lake Recreational Center's PADI Open Water Diver course – the world’s most popular and widely recognized scuba course. Millions of people have learned to SCUBA dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world, and this course is the first step on a wondrous journey.

To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course at Tigertail Lake Recreational Center, you must be at least 10 years old. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with SCUBA diving is required.

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
  • Knowledge Development to understand basic principles of scuba diving.
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills in our waterfront facility.
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

Registration is as easy as registering for any class at Broward College. Two options are available: credit (PEN 2136) and non-credit (EDE 0853). Click here to register for class today!

​Advanced Open Water

Exploration, Excitement, Experiences. That’s what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. You don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun scuba diving. Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to step up and enroll in an Advanced Open Water Diver course. Young divers may only participate in certain Adventures Dives – check with your PADI Instructor.


You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives. During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time. The other knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have – photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks and many more.

Additional PADI courses may become available including: Dive Master, Rescue Diver, NITROX diver, and many adventure dive options.
