Each math professor at North Campus determines for his students the number of Math Lab hours required to study in the lab over the course of the term. The work done in the Math Lab by the students would be any math assignments given to them by their professors. These assignments may include homework from the textbooks or an online computer program, worksheets, review sheets.
Two phrases that describe the Math Lab/North Campus are ‘open studying’ and ‘supervised studying.’ ‘Open studying’ means that there are no appointments made to study in the lab. Students can come whenever their schedule permits. The Math Lab does not restrict the number of times per week that students may attend nor how long they may stay. Lab supervisors and tutors provide the ‘supervised studying.’ They help students with their homework questions, circulating throughout the lab, working with them one on one. Signing in and out on one of the two attendance computers is required for any math student who studies in the Math Lab.
Also available are solution manuals and CD’s corresponding to the textbooks as well as lab copies of the adopted math textbooks. All of these materials are for use in the lab only and do not check out. The use of the computers and the Internet in the Math Lab is restricted to academic purposes related to the student’s math class.
