Services for Students


Open College

Videotapes required for the Open College classes in our distance learning program are available from Learning Resources. When checking out these tapes for the semester, you must present your:

     • Broward College student registration receipt (class schedule)
     • Broward College student ID card (Smart Card picture ID)



Free Tutoring

Peer TutorsOur tutors are selected from a pool of skilled applicants that meet high standards of professionalism. Each student is invited to spend up to two hours, per week, per subject with one of our qualified peer tutors. Students can also attend as many open (small group) sessions and walk-ins sessions as they need. Below is a sample of the areas tutoring services that are offered.

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Biology
  • Business Math
  • Calculus
  • Chemistry - General and Organic
  • Economics

Textbook-Specific Tutorial DVD's
There are subject-related DVDs available to supplement classroom instruction. Students may check them out for three days at a time or may watch them in the Learning Resources. The most popular DVD's requested by students include:

  • Beginning Algebra
  • Intermediate Algebra
  • College Algebra
  • Pre-calculus
  • Calculus


Graphic Calculators Loan Program

The Learning Resource Center and the North Campus Math Department are proud to offer students the opportunity to check out TI's Graphing Calculators FREE of charge for the duration of a semester.

Calculators available for check out:

  • TI-84 with accompanying manual
  • TI-83 with accompanying manual
  • TI-82 with accompanying manual

Requirements for checking out these calculators:

  • Students must be currently enrolled in a Math Class at North Campus.
  • Students must bring a copy of their current registration/payment receipt and current BC Student ID.

Please note that calculators are checked out on a first-come first-serve basis. Calculators can be checked out starting the first day of class, and they must be returned by the last day of final exams to avoid fines.


Computers with Assistive Devices for Students with Disabilities

Learning Resources and Disability Services have joined hands to provide the latest adaptive computer hardware and software to assist students with disabilities.

For students with learning disabilities, the Omni 300:

  • Scans and reads written materials
  • Provides a spoken dictionary
  • Checks your text documents for errors and corrects them

For students with visual impairments, the center provides such technology as:

  • Reading Edge
  • Optelec
  • Zoom Text Xtra
  • Braille printer

Two of the most exciting pieces of software reside in a computer with a 31" monitor:

  • Dragon Dictate
  • Naturally Speaking

Academic Computing ServicesOpen Computer Lab  

•  State-of-the-art computers with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel,     PowerPoint and Access
