The guide provides a quick glance, curriculum, student activities, career services & alumni, administrative support and reasons to attend. If this is your field check it out.
Thanks to everyone for coming out to the dedication of the Peggy Green Sustainability Institute today on North Campus! Campus President Dr. Barbara Bryan and Marie Dugan, friend of Dr. Green and head of the Science and Wellness department, reflected on her life and accomplishments in the Bldg 60, outdoor auditorium Tuesday morning. A new plaque, commemorating Dr. Green's invaluable influence on the Campus and the College at large was then unveiled. You can now find it hanging on thr outside of building 51 which also houses the new physical location of the Dr. Peggy Green Sustainability Institute.
* A video of the event is coming soon!
National Recycling Day was celebrated Novemeber 15th by conducting "trash audits" on the three main campuses in order to determine how much recyclable material was ending up in the garbage and eventually in the landfills. At the Willis Holcombe Downtown Center, a recent "Thanks for Recycling" event urged students, faculty and staff to bring in unwanted items, such as books, clothing and old electronics, which were donated to worthy causes, rather than being tossed into the garbage. The trash was the typical output of 24 hours that is generated by the college minus waste from the dining facility. We found that 40% of the material that was headed to the landfill should have been destined to the recycling containers. While most organizations have a greater percentage, we still have work to do!
We are thrilled to announce Broward College has been selected as one of four finalists in a nationwide contest sponsored by TerraCycle. The contest challenged our students to design a TerraCycle waste collection station using discarded "upcycled" waste. Our students came up with the idea of creating a bin out of VHS tapes. The judges liked our idea so much they have chosen us and nine others out of all the entries.
Now, the public will vote on a winner over the next couple weeks, ending October 27th. We would love to win and have our creation represented on the TerraCycle website. Please encourage your students to vote so Broward College can be named the Grand Prize Winner. All proceeds will benefit the Michelle Lawless Environmental Science Scholarship Fund.
