BCC Student Testing Information

  • If you have taken SAT or ACT test within two years of enrolling at BCC you may use those scores for placement. Please have your official scores sent to BCC.
  • If your scores are older than two years, or if you have never taken the SAT or ACT, you must take the CPT.
  • New degree-seeking students will be given the College Placement Test (CPT) to insure proper placement in English, Reading, and Math courses at no charge.
  • Transfer students with English and Math credits should see an advisor or counselor to determine whether you need to take the CPT.
  • All students must bring an official photo ID to take an exam at BCC

CPT Computerized Placement Test

  • You should be tested on the campus where you are planning to attend classes.
  • Plan for a one and a half hour test period for Computerized Placement Test (CPT).
  • Bring a government-issued photo identification (such as driver's license or passport).
  • Your paid application fee receipt or testing form is required for admittance into the testing lab.
  • No phones or calculators are permitted in the lab.

Level of English Proficiency (LOEP)

Students whose native language is not English may be required to test to measure their English Proficiency before placement into classes.  Students who have not had two years of American high school English must take the LOEP.  The LOEP consists of two parts: a short essay and the computer test.  The computer test measures reading and listening comprehension.

  • Plan for a 2 ½ hour test period for the LOEP.
  • You should be tested on the campus where you are planning to attend classes.
  • Bring a government-issued photo identification (such as driver's license or passport).
  • Your paid application fee receipt or testing form is required for admittance into the testing lab.
  • You will need an ink pen and two #2 pencils at the time of testing.
  • No phones or calculators are permitted in the lab.

 

Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE)

  • If you need the TABE test for law enforcement, corrections, community
    service aide, park ranger, or firefighter contact the Institute of Public Safety (IPS) at (954) 201-6931.
  • The TABE test can be taken in the testing center for the following programs:
    Aviation (South Campus only), Dental Assisting, Massage Therapy, and
    Medical Assisting.
  • Plan for a 3 hour test period. The TABE is a timed test in the areas of
    Language, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics/Applied Math. 
  • Bring a government-issued photo identification (such as driver's license or passport).
  • Your paid application fee receipt or testing form is required for admittance into the testing lab.

CLAST

All Florida Community College students seeking an A.A degree must satisfy the CLAST requirement before their degrees are awarded.  Some students may be exempt.  Please refer to college catalog and/or advisor/counselor for additional information.
