Welcome
Thank you for your interest in Broward College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. We offer two options for study. One option is the Certificate Program, which is offered to with previous radiology and/or sonography backgrounds or physicians from outside the country. The second option, offered to all students, is the Associate in Science Degree. The second option is the Associate in Science Degree, and is offered for those who wish to continue beyond the Certificate Program. In the A.S. program, additional Specialty courses in Sonography are offered along with the General Education courses required to earn the Degree. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Certificate program is completed sequentially in approximately 13 - 14 months. The degree program requires an additional 8 months - also sequential, for a total of 24 months of study. The requirements for admission for both programs are almost identical and are:
- Applicants must submit an official and original documentation that indicates completion of a minimum of a two year course of study in a health science field that is patient-care related, and which leads to Registry, Certification or Licensure.
- Applicants who have completed a Radiological Technology Program are given preference for admission.
- If not enough Radiologic Technologists apply to fill the available seats in the program, other health professionals will be considered for admission including Registered Nurses, Physical Therapy Professionals, Nuclear Medicine Technologists, MD's or DO's trained in the US or outside of the US and a variety of other professions. Bachelor degree students are also considered as long as they complete the required courses outlined in the admissions section.
- For all applicants, a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is required. The GPA should appear on submitted documentation.
The Degree program has additional avenues for admission in the event that the class is not filled with applicants who meet the requirements above. (See Admissions page for details).
