Veteran's Checklist-How to Enroll

 

By following these steps you are applying and determining eligibility for all of these resources to help you attend Broward College.

 

Click each Step 1-7 to progress and complete Broward College's Veteran's Application Process. 
Step 1: Apply to Broward College: Complete Admissions Application Process
Prospective student must complete and submit the application for admission and residency requirements to Broward College. Returning students complete a Re-entry application. 
Apply online or in person at any campus Admissions Office. 
Step 2: Apply to the VA: First time, Continuing & Transient Students
You may apply for VA Educational Benefits through the VA.gov Print or email a copy of your confirmation page to (veterans@broward.edu) or drop off to The Office of Veteran Services located on Central Campus Bldg 19 rm 101. Also submit the Electronic Veterans Certification Request Form (E-CERT). The E-CERT is required every time you register or change your schedule. 
  • VA Form DD22-1990 - First time veteran using VA education benefits
  • VA Form DD-22-5490 - First time dependent of a veteran using VA education benefits 
Veteran students transferring from another institution or have been out over a year, please complete through VONAPP: 
  • Veterans -  VA form DD22-1995
  • Dependents -  VA form DD22-5495 
Transient students – taking a course(s) to transfer back to your home school, submit : 

All students requesting to be certified for VA education benefits MUST complete an Electronic Veterans Certification Request Form (E-CERT) every time you register or make changes to your schedule.

Step 3: Apply for Financial Aid: Complete the FAFSA
You may qualify for Financial Aid. Steps for applying for Financial Aid.
 
Your GI Bill ® does not affect other financial aid such as Pell grants.
Step 4: Request ALL Transcripts (High School, College or Military)
All veterans applying for educational benefits must submit official transcripts from the previous college / university they attended for evaluation and must have an Educational Student Plan (ESP) prepared by an advisor.
 
In order to receive credits for any military training please submit your Official Joint Services Transcript (JST) to the admission office: Joint Service Transcript (JST)
 
Air Force official transcript - Air University/Community College of the Air Force. 
 
Once your JST has been received please Schedule an appointment with an advisor to request a review of your military training.
Step 5: Choose a Program of Study
For assistance choosing a program of study, you can meet with an Academic Advisor. Click for more information on Academic Appointments or Advising & Educational Planning.
  1. College articulation agreements can be found at www.assist.org, or
  2. A list of VA approved programs is available to view at www.gibill.va.gov .
Step 6: Obtain a VA Educational Student Plan (ESP) degree audit and submit ALL required documents
You will need to contact an academic advisor to create an Educational Student Plan (degree audit). Click for more information on Advising Appointments or Advising & Educational Planning.
Submit an Electronic Veterans Certification Form (E-CERT) online. **(key to receiving benefits at Broward College)
  • Students in a non-degree or certificate program- print and submit a VATTEN Form for each course you are enrolled in to  to verify your attendance in class.
Important Note: While the E-CERT does not need to be reviewed and signed by an academic advisor to confirm that all courses are on your degree audit prior to submission, you are encouraged to view your degree audit: please login to MYBC select the Advising tab in the MYBC web page. 

*Please remember all assessment tests must be done and all official transcripts must be turned in for the VA process to be completed.

*When registering for classes refer to your degree audit, accessible through MYBC login under the Advising tab. Remember only required classes are payable by the VA.
Step 7: Enroll in Classes from your Educational Plan, Attend all classes to Verify Enrollment

Students can register for classes via MyBC and follow the degree audit. If you change your schedule after the initial E-CERT is submitted, you will need to submit an updated E-CERT. (registration dates)

At the end of every month, Chapter 30, 1606, and 1607 students must call (877) 823-2378 or go to W.A.V.E. Web Automated Verification of Enrollment at: https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/index.do to verify their enrollment to receive payment.
Note: Chapter 33, 33-TR, and 35 do not verify enrollment but dependents may call 1-888-GIBILL-1 for certification status.
To Change Program of Study
Schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor to obtain a revised ESP (degree audit). The Academic Advisor will review prior credits to determine if any are applicable towards the new program of study.
