About Communication/Fine Arts Department:
The Department of Communication & Fine Arts at Broward Community College, North Campus is one of the most diverse academic areas at the college. Departmentalofferings included courses in Journalism, Modern Foreign Language (Spanish, French, German and American Sign Language), Art, Music and Theatre. Our full-time faculty are among the best with national and regional awards, featuring six past Endowed Teaching Chair recipients and several BCC, North professors of the year. Our adjunct faculty have also received student accolades for their superior knowledge of field and teaching techniques.

Several General Education courses are taught in our department, including the oral competency courses, SPC 1024 and SPC 1600, and several humanities options are offered on a regular basis, including levels three and four of Spanish and French (SPN 2200 and 2201; FRE 2200 and 2201), ARH 2000, 2050 and 2051, MUL 2010 and THE 2000. Other courses among our regular course offerings include the first two levels of American Sign Language (SPA 1612 and 1613); the first two levels of beginning Spanish, French and German (SPN 1120 and 1121; FRE 1120 and 1121; GER 1120 and 1121); Survey of Mass Communication (MMC 1000); Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Computer Art, Photography and other art studio courses (check catalog link for course numbers); and Acting I and II (TPP 2110 and 2111).

All Modern Foreign Language classes, as well as American Sign Language, are four-credit-hour courses and have a built-in lab requirement. Students are required to complete 16 hours of lab (outside of normal class meetings) during the semester.

Writing option courses are available in the Speech, Journalism, Art, Music and Theatre areas. Honors classes are also offered each semester (during the fall and winter semesters) in Speech and/or the Fine Arts area.

I encourage students who are interested in any of these academic disciplines to check the links contained within this web site for classes currently being offered and the college catalog descriptions of these courses.

We appreciate your visit to our web site and hope you decide to attend North Campus for your upcoming academic endeavors. Our faculty are committed to making your experience here enlightening, memorable and rewarding. Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.
