Deborah Hefferin received her bachelors and masters degrees from Northern Illinois University where she also completed coursework toward a doctorate. She is a past president of the Florida Communication Association and currently serves as editor of the FCA Journal. Deborah represents the Southern States Communication Association on the Legislative Council of the National Communication Association. She has served on numerous committees and programs focusing on the teaching and assessment of speaking and listening competence. She was recognized by NCA as the 1996 Outstanding Community College Educator. She is also a past recipient of a BCC Endowed Teaching Chair.
