Dora Romero

Biography Information

Dr. Dora Y. MarrĂ³n Romero teaches French and Spanish and holds an M.A. degree in French from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in Romance Studies with a concentration in French from the University of Miami, for which she received an Award of Academic Excellence. Her doctoral dissertation is titled ?Sacred Powers: Women and African-Derived Religions in Twentieth Century Caribbean Narrative.? Dr. Romero has served as adviser to the French and Spanish Clubs and also helped begin a chapter of the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship on campus. She often conducts book reviews for the BC/North Regional Library. In addition she has been a mentor, has chaired and been a member of various campus and collegewide committees, and has served as interim chair of the Communication and Fine Arts Department on North Campus. She is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, the American Association of Teachers of French, and the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages. She regularly presents papers at national and international literature conferences and was the 1996-97 North Campus Professor of the Year. She received the Waste Management Corporation Endowed Teaching Chair in 2000 and the Bank of America I Endowed Teaching Chair in 2009.
