Jonathan Schwartz

Teaching Philosophy

Jonathan Schwartz currently serves as Associate Vice President Operations Planning and Real Estate at Broward College. Mr. Schwartz joined Broward College in October of 2015 and leads real estate development initiatives for the college including the redevelopment of the downtown Fort Lauderdale center on Las Olas Boulevard. In his role, Mr. Schwartz also structures Public-Private-Partnership opportunities to leverage land assets and generate ongoing future revenue for the College. His work, particularly in the one of space utilization, will save the college millions of dollars which can then be reinvested into helping students reach academic milestones to graduate into careers. Previously, Mr. Schwartz held several positions within the Corporate Real Estate Services group at AutoNation, Inc. (NYSE: AN). He managed development teams as part of a $450M national real estate campaign and negotiated more than 200 agreements within a property portfolio containing over 4.5M square feet of retail, industrial and office properties nationwide. He also conducted financial analyses on over $500M of capital construction and property acquisition projects. Mr. Schwartz earned a Master of Business Administration with a focus in International Business and Finance from Florida Atlantic University. He also holds a bachelor?s degree in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Central Florida. Mr. Schwartz is passionate about education and serves as Trustee and Treasurer for Donna Klein Jewish Academy. He has also been recently appointed to the Broward County School Oversight Committee which is responsible for the $800 million academic facility improvement bond passed in 2014. He has served on the City of Fort Lauderdale Education Advisory Board and is also on the Broward College Village Square advisory board. He is a founding member and current chair of the Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot and also sits on The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance Downtown Council and the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Urban Core Council. Mr. Schwartz is a past Leadership Broward graduate and board member, and past chair of Emerge Broward. He has been recognized as Fort Lauderdale?s 40 Under 40 by Gold Coast Magazine and as the 2016 ?Up & Comer? by South Florida Business and Wealth Magazine.
