EAP 0300
Phonetics of American English
Course Description:
This course is designed to help non-native speakers of English gain proficiency
in speaking and listening communication skills encountered in academic
situations. This will be accomplished by guiding the students toward applying
pronunciation, phrasing, intonation, rhythm and stress patterns of American
English into their spoken language. The goals of the course will be accomplished
through oral discussions, interviews and oral presentations. Group work
is an integral component of the course because it provides the students
with the opportunity to use the spoken language. I win also work and assess
students individually to help monitor their progress throughout the course.
This provides me with the opportunity to speak with each person individually
so that I can give constructive feedback concerning the features covered
in a confidential environment. It is important to participate in all class
activities not only because you will accomplish the intended goals of
the course, but your pronunciation in social business and employment situations
will also improve with your efforts.
