Class Preparation…
- Before you come to class
- Setup a schedule to manage your time for each class and stick to it
- Plan on at least 2 hours outside the classroom for each hour of lecture
- Know the subject of each lecture before you walk in the door
- Read through the section to be covered even if you do not understand
all of the material
- Spend sometime before each lecture reading previous notes
- Have questions from previous homework ready for instructor
- Bring book to class
- Before lecture starts
- Arrive a few minutes early to class
- Have pencils (at least two) sharpened before lecture starts
- Be prepared to take notes when lecture starts
- During lecture
- Attend lectures regularly
- Write as legibly as you can
- Sit toward the front of the class
- Ask questions
- Remain an active participant during the lecture
- After lecture ends
- Reread the section and notes the same night
- Do as many assigned problems as possible and skip the ones that you
cannot solve
- After going through the homework assignment completely, retry the problems
that you cannot solve
- Clearly note which problems are still unsolved to ask instructor at
next lecture
- Read other textbooks or supplemental material from the publisher’s textbooks
website
Test Preparation…
- Review lecture notes before and after each class
- Keep up with the assignments
- Prepare outline of section to be covered on the test
- Use software tutorials to improve your understanding of the material
- Avoid cramming
- Get a good nights rest before the test
- Write your own test
- Use tests in textbook, study guides, and tutorials to assess your progress
- Use a tutor when necessary and seek answers to your questions as they
arise
- Arrive at the test early and remain calm
- Look over the test and skip questions you cannot answer right away
