I recently accompanied the South Broward High School Watershed Warriors on a camping trip to Riverwoods Field Station. South Broward High School houses a Marine Science Magnate Program. Students are learning about the top predators in both Florida terrestrial and aquatic environments by participating in actual hands-on field research. The watershed group is tracking top terrestrial predators like the Florida panther and the bobcat. The shark project group is participating in a shark catch, tag and release program in the Florida keys. In addition to their field work students also particpate in service learning opportunities at the research locations.
Their next trip is to Big Cypress National Preserve to track panthers.
