Application Information and Deadlines

Application Information and Deadlines

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) program is a limited access program. Students must apply to the program and be accepted.

The BSES program admits students in the fall, winter, and summer terms (August, January and May, respectively). To be considered for admission into the program, application packages must be submitted in full by the application deadlines.

Once the application package is submitted, it is then given to the BSES Admissions Committee for consideration. The Committee meets regularly throughout the academic semester. Applications must be complete to be considered by the Committee. Incomplete applications (e.g. missing transcripts, missing letter of recommendation) will not be considered until all documents are received. If the missing documents are not received in time for the final meeting of the admissions cycle, the student will not be considered for admission and will need to reapply for the following term.

Application Deadlines

Term Deadline
Spring December 1
Summer May 1
Fall August 1

Application packages submitted, completed, and/or received after the deadline will be processed as time and staff resources allow. Late applying students are not guaranteed admission, preferred classes, etc.

Applying for the program

  1. Fill out the supplemental application.
  2. After filling out the supplemental application, unofficial transcripts must be emailed to Ms. Chris Sammon (csammon1@broward.edu). The Environmental Science department can use unofficial transcripts for tentative admissions and advising purposes but official ones are required for full admission.
  3. Submit a letter of recommendation. Letters from college-level science faculty are highly preferred, but letters from other college-level faculty, employers/managers, and volunteer supervisors are also acceptable. Personal recommendations (e.g. letters from friends or family) are not acceptable. Letters must be emailed from the author directly to csammon1@broward.edu
  4. Students who have never attended or applied to Broward College before must also apply for admission to the College before they can be fully admitted to the BS in Environmental Science program.
  5. Once a student is admitted, the College requires official transcripts from all previous colleges/universities, as well as high school transcripts/proof of graduation, and residency affidavits. More information about these requirements is available as part of the BC application itself.
    • (Missing transcripts, residency documents, or other required materials will block students from registering for classes.)
  6. After the Admissions Committee reviews the application, the student will be emailed with their admissions status.

Students interested in applying to the program or who have questions are always welcome to contact the Environmental Science department for more information or to set up an appointment to speak to Dr. Serrano. Contact Ms. Chris Sammon at 954-201-6733 or csammon1@broward.edu with any questions or to arrange an appointment.
