Secondary Student Placement Testing

Middle and high school students taking the PERT test at a Broward College Testing Center for Dual Enrollment or College Academy must adhere to the following procedures to be eligible to test at a BC Testing Center:

All Secondary Students

Test sections* covered by this policy:

  • PERT Reading
  • PERT Writing
  • PERT Math
  • ACCUPLACER Higher Level Math Test (CLM and AAF)

*Non-Florida or non-FLDOE College Success test sections are not accepted by BC.

Students may retake the PERT an unlimited number of times. However, they must adhere to the following retesting policy:

  • First retest attempt may be taken after 24 hours.
  • Second and higher retest attempts may be taken every 30 days.

This timeline applies to postsecondary students and secondary students testing for postsecondary course purposes which includes; Dual Enrollment, College Academy, Algebra 1 EOC, Testing for other Institutions, and Private middle school students transitioning to public high schools.

Remediation prior to each test attempt is strongly encouraged.

Testing is available year round and there is no limit to the number of test attempts. However, students must adhere to retesting policies above.

Public and Private High School Student Testing Referral Process

  • Must provide a completed and signed testing referral form* from their high school guidance office prior to each test attempt.
    • Students without an appropriate signature are not eligible to test.
    • The referral form will be collected by the Testing Center at the time of testing.
      • Forms must be individual. If there are two forms on one sheet of paper, it will be collected as is.
    • Students will need to get a new form for each test attempt.

Home School Student Testing Referral Process

  1. Home school students are required to have the Recommendation and Articulation Agreement for Dual Enrollment Home School Students form signed by the School Board of Broward County (SBBC) District Home Education Office Official each term. This form can be obtained at under the “Home School Student” section of the DE website.
  2. Complete and submit a Broward College online application and obtain a BC ID #. Access the Guide to Apply Online for assistance.
  3. Bring the form to a BC Admissions office to obtain a PERT Referral form and take placement test
    • Retesting does not require steps 1 and 2. Go directly to step 3. However, retesting policies apply.

  • Testing is only available during the window specified by College Academy (CA). Beginning in 2020, CA students will be allowed 2 test attempts during the window period. However, students must adhere to retesting policies.
  • A CA PERT testing ticket is required to test. The ticket is obtained from the College Academy at the time of application to the program.
  • Students may use the CA PERT Ticket only Once.
