Editorial Positions

P'an Ku needs you! Gain hands-on magazine experience — and a stipend, too.

Editors are required to put in a minimum of 100 hours per semester.Mandatory meetings are held weekly on Fridays at the Broward College South campus, and with greater frequency and duration before deadline. P'an Ku editors and staff contribute to the community once per semester by working together at a volunteer event.

Please note that all positions require that you be a degree-seeking student enrolled in at least 6 hours at BC, have a 2.0 GPA, and you must have a completed Financial Aid file (unless you are an International Student). See positions below and a brief description of duties for each.

Works closely with the Editor-in-Chief to form the overall direction of the magazine. Collaborates with the team to create an eye-catching, crisp, clean layout of art, photography, and literature. Produces final web- and press-ready PDFs. Some proficiency in Mac-based, industry-standard software programs including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator necessary.

Oversees and organizes all communications with contributors. Manages Gmail accounts, distributes submissions to editors, notes and tallies vetting processes, assists in event planning, and keeps the team up-to-date on upcoming deadlines, events, and outreach obligations.

Communicates with art professors and schedules class visits to solicit submissions. Collects and organizes all art submissions. Leads team in vetting process, ensuring that a consistent and fair approach applies to each submission. Collects and organizes works for publication. Uses Photoshop and Illustrator to ensure high quality images are ready for print. Works with Photography Editor to schedule reshoots of artwork, when necessary.

Communicates with writing professors and schedules class visits to solicit submissions. Collects and organizes all literary submissions. Leads team in vetting process, ensuring that a consistent and fair approach applies to each submission. Collects and organizes works for publication. Proofreads and edits accepted submissions in poetry, fiction, and essay. Communicates with all contributors, ensuring that the finished product honors the writers' intent. Checks magazine for consistency before going to print.

Communicates with film professors and schedules class visits to solicit submissions. Collects and organizes all film submissions. Leads team in vetting process, ensuring that a consistent and fair approach applies to each submission. Collects and organizes films for publication. Uses Adobe Media and various cameras to shoot, edit, and publish films to Panku Video, Panku's YouTube channel.

Communicates with photography professors and schedules class visits to solicit submissions. Collects and organizes all photography submissions. Leads team in vetting process, ensuring that a consistent and fair approach applies to each submission. Collects and organizes works for publication. Uses Photoshop and Illustrator to ensure high quality images are ready for print. Works with Art Editor to schedule reshoots of artwork, when necessary.

Creates informative, engaging social media content, manages social media presence on various platforms, and coordinates events to promote the magazine. Assists in event planning. Develops community awareness of the magazine by fostering relationships with and delivering magazines to local establishments. Ensures that every campus and center is informed of submission deadlines, events, and magazine release.

Staff Positions

P'an Ku Staff participate in class visits, P'an Ku events, community service projects, and the vetting process. They assist editors as needed and in the process receive training to potentially fill future editorial positions. Staff maintain P'an Ku archives and historical material and perform assorted duties as assigned.
