Teaching Philosophy
If you can make class and the subject fun and you can impress upon students how the subject matter (geography/history) is relevant and important, then the learning experience is made all the more meaningful. The single greatest thing an educator can accomplish is to spark an interest in students and help to instill within them an innate curiosity and desire to learn more about a subject. If you can enable students to like/enjoy a subject and develop an interest in it, hopefully they will continue to learn about the subject long after the class has concluded.
Also, it is important to not permit the immaturity and bad behavior of one student (or a few) to undermine the learning experience for everyone else in class. It is o.k. to have fun but there should be zero tolerance for disruptive or rude behavior. Students should clearly understand their role in the classroom as opposed to that of the instructor.
