In "Things Look Bright All Over," Clyman explores the history of three noteworthy Broward County locations: the Two-Million Dollar Banyan, the Sunrise Upside-Down House, and the Hollywood Beach Hotel. Through mixed media paintings, sculptures, prints, and collected ephemera, portions of the life cycles of these iconic places are resurrected for viewers to reflect upon the rapidly shifting South Florida culture and landscape. The exhibition's title draws inspiration from vintage Florida tourism ads, and the depicted sites showcase the intricate relationship South Florida maintains with its reputation as a vacation paradise. This exhibition is made possible with support from the Broward County Cultural Division.
Mixed-media artist Angelica Clyman resides and works in her home city of Hollywood, Florida. Her paintings, sculptures, and prints represent South Florida locations in both past and present. Through her work, she seeks to find a sense of place, history, and understanding in a landscape that is changing quickly. Her work is included in the Miami Children's Museum's permanent collection, and her solo shows include Land of Sunshine (IS Projects) and Beyond Reflection (Art Center/ South Florida, now Oolite Arts). She holds degrees from Florida International University (MFA) and the New World School of the Arts (BFA). In addition to serving as the Director for the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery at Broward College, Central Campus, Clyman also teaches studio art courses.

Broward College’s Theatre Department will present The Foreigner by Larry Shue, from October 17-27, 2024. Presentations take place Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. This production is free of charge and tickets are not necessary. The Foreigner will be presented live at the Performing and Cultural Arts Theatre on BC’s South Campus in Pembroke Pines.
Performed by Broward College theatre students, the play tells the story Charlie, an Englishman grieving the demise of his marriage who ends up in rural Georgia with his colorful friend, Froggy. Desiring to withdraw from all present company lest he have to talk about his situation, Charlie pretends to be a foreigner who doesn’t speak or understand English. During his stay he is privy to a host of characters who believe he cannot comprehend them and consequently divulge dark and sinister intentions that are hostile to minorities. A collection of charming and magnanimous locals become involved, and before long our antagonists are exposed for the laughable and ridiculous characters they are.
While tickets to the event are free, donations will be accepted. For more information contact theatre@broward.edu.
