Angelica Clyman: "Things Look Bright All Over"

September 25 - December 3, 2024

Opening Reception: September 25: 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Artist Talk and Painting Demonstration with Angelica Clyman: October 16: 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Students from all fields are encouraged to attend.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. or by appointment
Thursday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or by appointment

In "Things Look Bright All Over," Clyman explores the history of three noteworthy Broward County locations: the Two-Million Dollar Banyan, the Sunrise Upside-Down House, and the Hollywood Beach Hotel. Through mixed media paintings, sculptures, prints, and collected ephemera, portions of the life cycles of these iconic places are resurrected for viewers to reflect upon the rapidly shifting South Florida culture and landscape. The exhibition's title draws inspiration from vintage Florida tourism ads, and the depicted sites showcase the intricate relationship South Florida maintains with its reputation as a vacation paradise. This exhibition is made possible with support from the Broward County Cultural Division.

Mixed-media artist Angelica Clyman resides and works in her home city of Hollywood, Florida. Her paintings, sculptures, and prints represent South Florida locations in both past and present. Through her work, she seeks to find a sense of place, history, and understanding in a landscape that is changing quickly. Her work is included in the Miami Children's Museum's permanent collection, and her solo shows include Land of Sunshine (IS Projects) and Beyond Reflection (Art Center/ South Florida, now Oolite Arts). She holds degrees from Florida International University (MFA) and the New World School of the Arts (BFA). In addition to serving as the Director for the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery at Broward College, Central Campus, Clyman also teaches studio art courses.

More details will be available on the Gallery's Instagram (@bcsouthcampusart).

KX2 (Ruth Avra and Dana Kleinman): Ripple Effect

Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 - Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 3rd from 4 – 7 p.m.

Artist Lecture: Thursday, October 3rd at 5 p.m.

Deeply concerned with the urgent environmental issues facing our world, this exhibition is a culmination of KX2’s ongoing exploration into the fragile relationship between urbanization and the environment, focusing on critical themes such as water infrastructure, climate change, flooding and the diminishing access to potable water. Through this body of work, the artists aim to not only reflect upon the impact of climate change on infrastructure but also to provoke a dialogue about the future of our communities and our planet.
KX2 is a collaboration combining the strengths of artists and sisters Ruth Avra and Dana Kleinman, who create sculptures merging metalwork and painting. Their works delve into the realm of data research, particularly focused on climate change, to shed light on environmental issues. Since establishing their artistic collaboration in 2007, KX2’s work has been featured in notable galleries and museums around the world. Their work was leveraged to the international art scene with an invitation to represent the United States at the 2008 Beijing Biennale at the National Art Museum of China. Their work can be found in numerous private, corporate and public art collections throughout North America. Avra and Kleinman currently reside with their individual families in Southern Florida.

Desiring to withdraw from all present company lest he have to talk about his situation, Charlie pretends to be a foreigner who doesn’t speak or understand English.
