Course Description

Critical Care Nursing is designed to target entry level critical care nurses incorporating the principles of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment and management. The course provides instruction on how to care for high acuity patients.

The focus is on caring for patients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, hemodynamic, neurologic, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, hematologic and multisystem disorders. Content includes the on-line Essentials of Critical Care Orientation modules from the American Association of Critical-Care Nursing. Lecturers present case studies, facilitate group discussions, and critical thinking exercises. Additional on-line activities are available through Desire 2 Learn.

The Nursing Simulation Lab course is conducted in a simulation lab where the nurse is expected to demonstrate assessment skills and patient management on a Human Patient Simulator. Course Description

The Introduction to Emergency Nursing's 95 hour theory course provides the basic didactic content for those interested in entering the field of emergency nursing. This blended course is based on the core curriculum for ED nurses from the Emergency Nurses Association, and includes the ENAs on-line learning modules combined with studied cases, critical thinking exercises and a review of skills necessary for patient stabilization and management. Special modules include cardiac care, respiratory care, stroke car, triage, psychiatric emergencies and non-violent crisis intervention.

Course Description

​Hemodynamic Day is incorporated into the Critical Care Nursing course. Participants who wish to join the group should have previous clinical experience in at least Tele or Progressive Care areas. Concepts discussed are about blood motion and equilibrium.
The day’s activities include a three-hour lecture/presentation on cardiac and pulmonary anatomy & physiology as they relate to central lines. Then participants rotate to hands-on skills stations for arterial lines, pulmonary artery catheters, central venous lines and cardiac output. Nursing care, assessments, interventions and outcomes are correlated with what is observed on the monitors.
This is not a beginning nursing course. In order to optimize learning we ask participants to have reviewed tutorials or articles on Hemodynamic Monitoring. To receive the certificate, the participant must attend the full day’s activities.

This is a comprehensive course which provides instruction on how to become a perioperative nurse. The focus of this course is the care of patients that will be undergoing invasive procedures. This Perioperative Nursing course is designed as a blended program using multiple modalities, with AORN Perioperative Nursing online modules being the core curriculum, in conjunction with simulation and a robust clinical preceptorship. The course will provide the necessary knowledge and clinical skills to work as a Perioperative Registered Nurse.

Course Description
This course is designed to prepare students to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Clinical Medical Assistants perform various tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients and other related tasks. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare.

This program prepares students to perform EKG's and includes information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography and stress testing. This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices.

Course Description
This 50-hour Dialysis Technician Program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties required of Dialysis Technicians. Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems as well as maintain and repair equipment. Furthermore, technicians work with patients during dialysis procedures and monitor and record vital signs as well as administer local anesthetics and drugs as needed. Additionally, they may also be involved in the training of patients for at-home dialysis treatment. Note: This program does not include a national or state certification as part of its overall objectives. Additionally there is no student internship or clinical rotation offered as part of this program.

Course Description
This 100 hour Veterinary Assistant program introduces students to the exciting and growing field of veterinary medicine. Students will learn about the care of animals as well as how to recognize signs of illness and disease. This program also covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as how to assist the veterinarian during examinations. This course prepares students for entry-level positions as a chair-side dental assistant. ​Course Description
This onsite class teaches how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of automated external defibrillators (AED) and how to relieve airway obstruction following American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines. Basic rescuer training is intended to provide the student with information about prudent heart living, prevention of unnecessart death from heart attack, signals and actions for survival as well as mastery of the skills involved in cpr 1 & 2 person, obstructed airway and infant cpr. Refund Policy
Cancellation requests must be made by email or calling The Workforce Education and Economic Development department two full business days (or as specified for an individual program) prior to the scheduled educational activity. No refunds will occur after the cancellation deadline or after the class has started. No shows do not constitute a cancellation. Students who register and pay in full for an educational activity, but do not attend, forfeit the entire registration fee. Online classes are not refundable once the student’s registration has been processed.

Extenuating Circumstances
The Workforce Education and Economic Development department may accept a petition for refund of tuition after a class cancellation date for extreme exceptional circumstances that prohibited a student’s ability to officially withdraw. The student must be able to provide clear documentation of the extenuating circumstances. These circumstances may include, but not limited to, serious illness of self or an immediate family (father, mother, spouse, sibling or child), call to or enlistment in active military duty, death and other emergency circumstances or extraordinary situations. Acceptance of petition will be at the discretion of The Workforce Education and Economic Development.

Cancellation Policy
The Workforce Education and Economic Development department reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any educational activity due to an insufficient number of registrants or for any reason deemed necessary. If a program is cancelled by The Workforce Education and Economic Development Departments, a full refund will be provided.

Certificates
A certificate will be given to all participants who have completed the course and registration requirements. The certificates will be given out by the faculty member at the end of the last class session. Be sure to get your certificate at the conclusion of the course. Participants must attend the entire offering. Partial hours/credit can not be given. Late arrival or early departure will result in the loss of all hours/credit.
Note: There is a $5 charge for duplicate certificates.

Attendance
Attendance is mandatory on all scheduled course dates. Late arrival or early departure may result in a loss of money paid for the course; student will receive a non satisfactory grade for the course.

Fees
Fees may vary according to the type of offering and contact hours of the class. Florida State Legislation mandates that those students who have not been a resident in the State of Florida for at least one (1) year, may have to pay out-of-state fees for certain courses. Residency is verified at the time of registration.

Schedule/Room Changes
In the event a class is canceled or rescheduled, changes in room assignment, as well as those marked "TBA," will be posted at the class location.

Miscellaneous Information
When attending courses, you will be expected to provided your professional license number, along with a #2 pencil and a pen for signing the attendance sheet. A sweater may be needed for your comfort. If textbooks are required, they will be available at the bookstore located on the central campus in building 19. Offerings listed online are subject to change.
