Coding under the Stars is an 8-hour team competition involving Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Vehicles. This competition gives the participants an opportunity to assemble Lego devices and drones. Our theme this year is to code, learn and unite. The unity component provides each team an opportunity to explore how a vehicle might be assembled, coded, and then upgraded.

Coding under the Stars will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025. It will take place at Broward College North Campus, Buildings 46 and 48.  In-person participation is required.

This is the inaugural event for Coding under the Stars. As stated above, the theme this year is to code, learn, and unite. You will find out the challenges during the opening ceremony. They will be presented both electronically and in writing.

All categories will be announced during the opening ceremony.  The majority, if not all prizes, will be made on our 3D printer and our Glowforge in our makerspace.

If you are interested in sponsoring our event, please check out this page, and fill out the application form.

You don’t need any experience to participate in this event.  We welcome Broward College students of all skill levels and academic backgrounds.

All teams look different.  You can be a programmer or even just someone with a great idea.

We plan to have 24 Broward College student participants on a first come, first serve basis. Please sign up quickly because we can’t wait to see you there.

We recommend bringing your own laptop. If you do not have your own device, you may use our limited supply of computers. We highly recommend using your own device, that way you do not need to wait to install any software. Since this is at least an 8-hour event, we also suggest bringing hygiene products, feminine products, blankets, or whatever reasonable items you need to be comfortable here!

You will get a T-shirt, while sizes and supplies last.

We will be serving snacks throughout the event – free of cost.  A light dinner will also be served.

Nothing!  Coding under the Stars is a free event for all those that wish to participate!

We will publish the schedule soon.

We will have an opening ceremony and closing ceremony.  Many ROV and Autonomous vehicle challenges will take place into the evening.

You will be in a group of three or four members.  Teams can have no more than four members.  You can create or join teams prior to the event, but we will also have a team formation session during the event.

We do not force the creation of teams according to skill.

All Broward College students are eligible for this face-to-face event. The student must attend in person. You must currently be a student. If you are under 18, you will have to fill out a waiver form when you register.

Only registered participants can attend—no guests are allowed.

You can reach us at Broward College’s North Campus IT and Engineering Department or call us at 954-201-2324.
