In September 2025, on the 66th anniversary of its founding, Broward College commemorated the Investiture of Torey Alston as its 8th President. This milestone represents both a continuation of the College’s legacy and the beginning of a new and exciting chapter.
An investiture ceremony is a time-honored academic tradition dating back to the Middle Ages that formally installs a new leader and reinforces the mission, values, and enduring strength of the college community. The tradition of an investiture ceremony in higher education is typically held in a president’s first year in office and is a time to introduce the president’s vision for the future and celebrate as a community.
In recognition of this milestone, Broward College marked its 66th anniversary with a series of events that engaged faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community—culminating in the formal Investiture Ceremony on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Bailey Hall.
As President and CEO of Broward College, Mr. Alston is committed to working with all stakeholders to build upon the strong foundation that has already been established at the College. He knows that, by working together, Broward College can be the number one destination for academic excellence.
“Broward College will be in good hands with Torey at the helm.”

“I can't think of a better pick that has always put students first. He has the credentials and broad community support.”
“Torey has a bold vision for Broward College and its students, and he will be a phenomenal college president.”
“As a community partner, we are excited to support Torey.”
“Torey will be perfect as the president and CEO of Broward College.”
“Our families have known each other for years and I am excited to support Torey, a fellow Blanche Ely High School alum, as the President of Broward College.”
“Torey brings the right leadership, gravitas, rolodex, and community support needed to be successful as President and CEO of Broward College.”
This celebration was made possible through the generosity of our supporters, with no taxpayer funds used. Students, alumni, faculty, community partners, and friends of the College came together to recognize President Alston's leadership and shared commitment to academic excellence.
All donations supported the Investiture, and any excess funds were directed to the Empowerment Fund, which supports initiatives that advance student enrollment, retention, and completion of degrees at Broward College.
