This September, on the 66th anniversary of Broward College’s founding, we will commemorate the Investiture of Torey Alston as its 8th President. This milestone represents both a continuation of the College’s legacy and the beginning of a new and exciting chapter.
As President and CEO of Broward College, Mr. Alston is committed to working with all stakeholders to build upon the strong foundation that has already been established at the College. He knows that, by working together, Broward College can be the number one destination for academic excellence.
We will mark this historic occasion with a number of festivities celebrating the College’s 66th anniversary and honoring its legacy of service, philanthropy, and academic excellence.
The week-long series of events will welcome and encourage participation from faculty, staff, and the broader community, culminating in the formal investiture ceremony.

This celebration is made possible through the generosity of our supporters, with no taxpayer funds used. We welcome students, alumni, faculty, community partners, and friends of the College to join us in recognizing President Alston's leadership and shared commitment to academic excellence.
All donations will support the Investiture, and excess funds will be directed to the Empowerment Fund which supports initiatives for student enrollment, retention, and completion of degrees at Broward College.
The investiture ceremony, a time-honored academic tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, symbolizes the formal installation of a new leader and reinforces the mission, values, and enduring strength of the college community. The ceremony itself is defined as “the formal transference of authority in a high office.” The tradition of an investiture ceremony in higher education is typically held in a president’s first year in office and involves a symbolic recognition of the institution’s new leader. It is also a time to introduce the president’s vision for the future and celebrate as a community.
The installation of a new president is a ceremony of dignity with many academic traditions and protocols, including the wearing of academic regalia that signifies the education levels of the participants. An academic procession will take place that includes prior Presidents, the Board of Trustees, and participants from other colleges and universities.
Marchers wear the colorful academic regalia of their own institution. Interspersed with musical selections, there will be the processional, invocation, greetings from dignified guests, presentation of the symbols of office, President’s address, benediction, and the recessional.
