The Visual & Performing Arts Department (V&PA) has been an integral part of Broward College since the College’s inception in 1960. Join us for an evening of wit, absurdity, and timeless humor with two of Anton Chekhov’s most beloved one-act comedies: The Proposal and The Bear. These sharp, fast-paced farces explore what happens when love and pride collide.
In The Proposal, a nervous young man attempts to propose marriage—only to find himself in a ridiculous argument that threatens to derail everything. In The Bear, a grieving widow and a rough-edged creditor clash in a battle of wills that takes an unexpected turn.
Directed by Jenna Wyatt and performed by Broward College students, this double bill promises laughter, charm, and a delightful dive into the world of Chekhovian comedy.

Fall Student Film Showcase

Join us in celebrating the cinematic achievements of our Film Production Technology students this Fall 2024 semester at Broward College Central Campus. Over the course of three hours, we will screen a diverse selection of short films showcasing the talents of students at every level of the program: 2-minute fictional stories from Introduction to Filmmaking, short documentaries from Nonfiction Filmmaking, and 5-minute narrative shorts from Fiction Filmmaking, highlighting their technical and artistic skills. Our graduating students will also present their Capstone Projects—longer films that demonstrate their refined filmmaking abilities. The films will be shown in random order to keep the experience exciting.
Let’s come together to recognize the hard work of our students, and to appreciate the support of the actors, parents, and friends who helped make these films possible.
