The Adult Education program at Broward College is crafted to offer thorough educational avenues for adults aiming to enhance their basic skills, obtain their GED, enhance their proficiency in English language, or gear up for further education and career progression.

This program is accessible to Florida residents aged 18 and older. Our classes are guided by instructors, providing tailored support to facilitate your learning journey.

Program Offerings

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

ABE classes provide basic skills instruction in reading, language, and/or mathematics and critical thinking skills to prepare students for GED® preparation, postsecondary education, and/or employment. Student who scores at an NRS level 1-4 on the TABE Score start in this program.

Adult Basic Skills

The ABS Program is a non-credit program designed to develop or refresh the literacy and mathematics skills necessary for students to be successful workers, citizens, and family members. 

GED

The purpose of the GED® program is to prepare students to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Official GED® Tests and get their State of Florida High School Diploma. Focus is on RLA, MATH, SCIENCE, AND SOCIAL STUDIES. Student who scores at an NRS level 5-6 on the TABE Score start in this program.

ESOL

Crafted to assist individuals in attaining proficiency in the English language. Student are placed in classes based on their NRS level on the CASAS exam.

Tuition:

The program is currently offered to participants at no cost. It features pre-assessments to determine individual levels, instructor-led classes, and post-assessments to track progress. Additionally, participants receive workbooks, access to interactive online learning resources, career coaching, and one official GED voucher per subject.

Session One: 16 Weeks (August - December)
Session Two: 8 Weeks (October - December)

Spring Semester:

As part of Broward College's Adult Education programming, participating students will receive tuition-free training, and all fees and books will be paid for as they pursue a trade. Fast-track programs include:

FAQs

The TABE and CASAS Exam are only offered at the YMCA location

Currently at a no cost of participants. However, on your own the GED Computer-based test is $128

Your diploma will have the words "State of Florida" and "High School Diploma" on it. It is just as valid as the diplomas given at any high school.

18 years and older, or you have received an Underage Waiver.

Follow the registration steps for the campus of your choice as listed in the section above.

1. You will need to secure a student ID number by applying to www.broward.edu
2. Contact a case manager to register and take Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) or the test for CASAS with a valid government issued photo ID for registration.
3. Attend orientation and start class based on schedule provided

Low TABE scores shouldn't stop you from seeking your GED. We tailor instruction to all levels.

Classes are available during the morning, mid-day, and evening.

No cost to participants at the moment

The GED program allows students to work at their own pace. Each student enters at a different level and dedicates varying amounts of time to studying for the GED. In order to remain enrolled, students must meet the program attendance requirement. When a student feels he/she is ready to take the exam, an Adult Education staff will assist the student in registering for the GED Exam.
