Broward UP courses and programs are offered ongoing throughout the semester. This makes it easy to start or continue pursuing a credential or degree at times convenient for you. There are mandatory Adult and Community Education (ACE) orientation sessions you MUST attend to be enrolled in a course.
Course and schedule are subject to change without notice based on space and funding availability. Enrollment is on a first-come basis and attendance must be confirmed on the first day of class, even for online courses.

Description: Clinical Medical Assistant prepares individuals for a career assisting healthcare providers in both clinical and administrative roles within a variety of healthcare settings. The curriculum typically covers topics like medical terminology, patient care procedures, basic laboratory skills, and administrative duties. Students learn to perform tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with examinations and procedures, administering medications, performing basic lab tests (like phlebotomy and EKGs), and handling specimens.
Note: There is a mandatory in-person orientation at the YMCA on 5/5 at 1PM.

Description: This program provides students with the skills and driving experience necessary to thrive in this career by obtaining a nationally recognized, in-demand Commercial Driving License.
This is a CDL Class A, 160 hour, 4-week course, M-F from 7a.m. – 4 p.m.
Prerequisites: High School or GED, DOT Physical, CDL Permit, Driving Record, Driving License, Drug Screening.

Description: This course train students in the basics of demand planning so they can quickly familiarize themselves with and become effective contributors to the demand planning processes that are part of SCM. Key elements of this course include aspects of demand planning, interaction between demand and order management, demand planning principles, demand planning tools and techniques, communication and management of demand, and contemporary approaches to demand planning.
Note: While a high school diploma or GED is not a formal requirement, it is strongly encouraged.

Description: This course prepares students to understand and use electronic records in medical practice. Course reviews the implementation and management of electronic health information using common electronic data interchange systems and maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation, and regulatory requirements of the electronic health record.
Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED. A background check, drug screening, and other requirements may be required.

Description: The purpose of the GED® program is to prepare students to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Official GED® Tests and get their State of Florida High School Diploma. Focus is on RLA, MATH, SCIENCE, AND SOCIAL STUDIES.
Classes provide basic skills instruction in reading, language, and/or mathematics and critical thinking skills to prepare students for GED® preparation, postsecondary education, and/or employment.

Description: This course covers information on the medical assisting profession including scheduling, patient encounters, communication and professionalism, foundational knowledge, medical law, ethics, compliance, billing and revenue cycle, and medical practice administrative procedures. Upon completing this course, students will be eligible to take the Certified Medical Administrative (CMAA) exam.

Description: This course provides students technical skills necessary to service complex patient personal care and medical assisting issues including the implementation of selected portions of a specific care plan that may include rehabilitation services, bedside care, collection of laboratory specimens, phlebotomy, and EKGs. Patient Care Technicians work alongside doctors, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare providers to oversee and monitor patients.

Description: This course enables students to understand the various functions involved in the operation of a warehouse. This certificate track course includes: the role of warehousing in the supply chain, storage and handling techniques performance metrics, inventory management, customer service considerations, and safety concerns across various types of distribution facilities.
Note: While a high school diploma or GED is not a formal requirement, it is strongly encouraged.
Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 or older for most Broward UP courses. Healthcare courses require applicants to have completed a high school diploma or GED. Our Adult Education Program can assist you if you have not completed a high school diploma or GED.
Only one (1) course can be taken at a time.
Participants MUST show proof of completion for all previous courses.
With the exception of the Supply Chain Management series of courses, students are only eligible for one (1) course per semester, not to exceed two (2) courses over their time in the program. This excludes GED and ESOL courses.
Funding: Through grant funding, Broward UP offers free courses and workshops to qualifying students who reside in the following zip codes: 33309, 33311, 33313, 33314, 33319, 33023, 33020, 33069, 33064, 33441, and 33065, and those referred by community partners. Certain restrictions apply.
Other internal and external funding opportunities may be available for eligible students outside these areas. We also work with students who are interested in seeking or returning to complete a degree program at Broward College. The Career Pathway Navigator team assists students with determining available opportunities.
