Supporters pack Broward VP's book signing
Several dozen friends and supporters of Dr. Edna Chun, Broward College’s vice president for human resources and equity, turned out for a book signing on June 10 at the college’s Higher Education Center in Fort Lauderdale. Chun’s most recent book with co-author Alvin Evans is “Bridging the Diversity Divide: Globalization and Reciprocal Empowerment in Higher Education.”
Previously she and Evans, associate vice president for human resources at Kent State University, collaborated on “Are the Walls Really Down? Behavioral and Organizational Barriers to Faculty and Staff Diversity,” which was awarded the 2007 Kathryn G. Hansen Publication Award from the College and University Professional Association.
“We’re here for a most auspicious occasion, a book signing with our own Dr. Chun and we’re so very proud of her,” said Levi Williams, a member of the Broward College District Board of Trustees. “Thank you, Dr. Chun, for elevating the dialogue on this issue. It enhances Broward College’s profile in academia.”
Chun was presented with a bouquet of 12 red roses by her staff by Pat Senior, associate vice president for professional development and training. “In three short years, she’s made so many changes, it’s been phenomenal,” Senior said.
Among other speakers were Damon Davis, president of the college’s faculty union and Tony Lesesne, chairman and co-publisher of In Focus magazine. Accompanying Chun at the book signing was her son, Alex, a 2008 neuroscience graduate at Oberlin College.
“I never thought I’d be so proud of my mom,” Alex Chun said. “Every free moment she was working. We moved seven times. Now, she’s a superstar,” he said. “I’m proud of you and I love you.” Edna and Alex Chun performed several musical numbers for their guests. Edna Chun played the Clavinova and Alex Chun played the flute.
Together they played the “Theme for the Incredible Hulk,” by Joe Harnell; James Galway’s version of the “Traditional Spanish Love Song,” and “Annie’s Song,” by John Denver. Alex Chun did a solo rendition of J.S. Bach’s “Partita for Flute Solo.”
